While out-of-distribution (OOD) generalization, robustness, and detection have been discussed in works related to reducing existential risks from AI (e.g., [Amodei et al., 2016, Hendrycks et al., 2022b]) the truth is that the vast majority of distribution shifts are not directly related to existential risks.
